I love me some Swingers! That's a classic!
While I was here I also scrolled along the bottom YouTube thingies, on your link, with similar songs and played Mi-Sex's Computer Games. Love that one too! But may I offer for your viewing and listening pleasure, another Kiwi classic. Mother Goose - Baked Beans.
They played it t'other day on Hauraki (The best Radio Station out there!) and it brought back fond memories.

I don't remember that one - maybe it came out while I was overseas.

More from NZ music month. Hauraki featured this on 'Guilty Pleasures' this morning.
'Guilty Pleasures' being songs that you enjoy but wouldn't necessarily admit to liking, for some very obvious reasons.

I still like this one, even though the lead's voice isn't the best. I think its held up well!

Today's treat. Mr Lee Grant.
I even have an old LP of his which has this song on it. Admittedly I bought it second hand, I'm not that old!

Is that actually a surviving NZ music show clip from the 60s????
Looking at that, you realise Lee was a very stylish guy! (with a beautiful voice!) I love that suit. |

That's most likely from "C'mon". Or "Happen In". Both from the 60's and both hosted by the late Pete Sinclair.
Mr Lee Grant (I think the 'Mr' was to differentiate him from the actress Lee Grant) was born Bogdan Kominowski and later had an acting part in the Bond film 'A View to a Kill'. If memory serves me right his character came to a nasty end. Head first into some revolving blades on a boat or sub (can't remember which).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Lee_Grant Your right about the reason for the "Mr", Anna.
No mention on th ewikipedia article about what he is doing now, so maybe hes retired. An interesting life! |

With all the Adam Lambert stuff going on I felt like playing the original of this song so I present: Mad World by Tears for Fears.
I pretty much like any version of it, including Gary Jules. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZRib_aAQFQ Sorry, embedding disabled by request... blah, blah, blah...

I remember all the gamers freaking out about how the Jules version affected them so deeply after hearing it on the commercials for "Gears of War" for
the XBox 360 when it came out
I can only guess at the number of downloads caused by that. Not that that's bad, but some of the reactions seemed to be so over-the-top. I prefer the TFF original really. But Jules' version was notably bleaker and darker. |

I'm going through a Joni Mitchell stage right now. She just amazes me with her voice.

Joni is my all time favourite. I'm trying to get hold of "Girls Like Us" a biography of her & 2 of my other favourites Carole King &
Carly Simon. I'm not having an luck through the library so I may buy it when it comes out in soft cover. (Sept in NZ)

I'm only a new convert. I've known of her of course but only just now really gotten into her music. Is her later stuff as good as her old stuff?
Recommendations welcomed.
I've just bought 'Court and Spark' and 'Blue' through TradeMe. I'm after 'Clouds'. These are all early-ish. I don't know her 80's and onwards music.

I like her early stuff the best - & if you have Court & Spark & Blue then you have the best of the best.
When googling her I've read comments indicating her voice has deteriorated a bit - partly her age, partly because she was a very heavy smoker.
If you like her album covers her other art is also worth checking out. & here is another mega talent. Carly Simon singing with her daughter Sally. Comments on this clip indicate this was recorded in 2005 which would make her at least 60 at teh time. But she looks & sounds amazing! |
