I was at another board & there was a thread about cover songs. This is by New Foundland band Great Big Sea. I like the original but I think I prefer this.
I played a couple of their other songs too. Really good.

I like both of those.
Maple, the cover is better than the original. And Marica, the second band remind me of someone, and I think I'm going to go with a mix of 'The Animals' and 'The Kinks'. I don't know whether they were intentionally going for a sixties brit rock sound or not but I think there's a similarity. Either that or I'm going senile. 
Anyhoo I'd be tempted to check both bands out for more stuff.

Anna, that is the sound I think they are going for. They are from Kentucky, but the singer sometimes tries to sound British in his singing. I like their whole
album.

Anna I'm thinking there is a distinctive "Maritimes" sound to some Eastern Canadian bands. Great Big Sea do remind me of Nova Scotia bands I heard when I went back "home." |

My favourite Blondie song is "Hanging on the Telephone" Reading some comments on You Tube I realised that it wasn't an original. Who knew?

I saw one episode of the latest Australian Idol (th eNZ one mercifully only ran a couple of seasons) & I thought the contestants looked pretty mediocre.
The first couple of series of of ity were really good - especially the 1st one which had such talented finalists. This is th ewinner Guy Sebastien. He usually
made fairly offbeat song selections but this was one of his more conventional selections.

I haven't been following Aussie Idol. Apart from seeing a couple of minutes-worth here and there as it's on before 'Supernatural', which I never miss.

OK, from the 2nd series of Australian Idol its NZ born Chanel Cole. This song is the one that captures her naturally wacky yet sensual style.. She came 5th in
this series. I looked her up on th einternet & she was defintely still singing. in Feb of this year. Quite a few of the contestents from the first 2 series
did well nationally. (in Oz I mean)
